Frequently Asked Questions
How does Girls Wave Riding ensure the safety of all campers?
Safety is our #1 priority at all times. Management is CPR certified with over a decade of ocean rescue lifeguard and first aid experience. Our instructors are highly experienced year-round surfers and we keep the student to instructor ratio 1:1 in the water. You will not find this personalized instruction at any other surf school in New Jersey.
There is inherent risk associated with surfing and beach activities. Although children may experience the occasional bump, bruise or tears while surfing; we aim for every camper to walk away feeling confident and smiling!
Are snacks or lunch provided?
No food or drinks are provided. Campers must either bring their own meals, snacks and beverages.
What if my child is already surf experienced, can she still come to camp?
Yes! If your child is already surf experienced she will still be able to participate in all of the camp activities. As often as possible we will group experienced surfers with one another and adjust the camp layout to suit their needs. When a surfer shows they are capable of independence in the water, we allow them to surf more freely while being supervised. The experienced camper, if willing, is also given the opportunity to act as a mentor to the less experienced campers. If she is of the age of 16+, we encourage experienced surfers to apply for a job at our camp! We also recommend private lessons to refine technique and surf skills by working one on one with our most experienced staffers.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Camp Cancellation Policy:
10 days notice of cancellation for a purchased camp week is required for a full refund. You will be ineligible for a full refund without 10 days notification.
Single Day bookings require 7 days notice of cancellation to be eligible for a full refund.
Camp days cancelled because of lightning, severe wind, beach evacuation or unsafe surf conditions will be made up on following weeks where space is available.
If a camper is unable to attend camp days due to an emergency situation, we will issue makeup days where space allows. Available space is not guaranteed but we will do our very best to accommodate everyone!
Cancelled or missed camp days DO NOT roll over into the following season.
Surf conditions are often unpredictable. If camp is not cancelled and water time is limited due to tides, wind & swell size, we spend time on ocean safety, beach exercises, practicing balance, yoga, games and crafts. We aim to have campers in the water as much as possible but safety is always the most important factor when determining day to day water time.
Our camp operates rain or shine. Some of the best surf conditions are during rain, but we evacuate the beach at the first reports of lightning storms. Parents are then called to pick up the campers.
There are no refunds issued for cancelled or missed camp days. There are no refunds if an injury occurs during camp and prevents the student from participating for the remainder of the purchased camp day, week or remainder of the purchased lesson. Students will be offered makeup days to use for the remainder of the season where space allows. Space is not guaranteed.
